Amigos is thrilled to announce our 30th Anniversary Show on Saturday, November 24th, 2018! We’ve had SO much fun presenting thousands of shows with many talented artists over that time, so we hope that you can help celebrate this joyous occasion with us!
We have assembled a lineup of three bands from Amigos past and present, including The Smugglers (who reform to celebrate their very own 30th Anniversary!!!), the punk-rock kicks of Chixdiggit, and the diner drive-in ditties of The Garrys.
“Amigos was the venue that gave us a chance to play in the early years when no other venue would touch us”, remembers Smugglers lead singer Grant Lawrence, who is now a CBC broadcaster and bestselling author. “When we heard that Amigos’ 30th anniversary lined up perfectly with our band’s 30th, we knew right away where we’d be holding the party.”
Last year, the Smugglers reunited for the first time in 13 years to celebrate Lawrence’s award-winning latest book, “Dirty Windshields: the best and the worst of the Smugglers tour diaries”, which features a chapter about Amigos. The joint 30th anniversary celebration in Saskatoon will be the Smugglers only gig in 2018, their only show in the foreseeable future, and their first time performing at Amigos in over 16 years.
“It’s always been our favourite place to play, from the earliest days when no one would show up to those heady times in the late 1990s when there would be a line up around the block. Amigos has always been really good to us. There’s so many sweaty, boozy, naughty memories for us in that room that it’s going to be great to bring the party back there one more time. We consider Amigos the CBGB of the prairies. With skylights. And Mexican food.”
The Smugglers are a garage rock ‘n’ roll band from Vancouver, primarily active between 1988 – 2004. They have eight albums to their credit on labels like Mint and Lookout Records, and hold a record of five consecutive records hitting number one on the Canadian National Campus Radio Chart. The Smugglers have played Amigos countless times over the years.
Tickets are only $25 in advance and $30 day of (if still available). Get yours at Amigos or Online at https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/1721822?utm_medium=bks
