We return post-slam with another cozy community stage! Sign up begins at the door at 7:30 PM. Please keep yourself to one or two pieces, or 5 minutes, out of respect for the space and for the others you are sharing it with. We are very excited to welcome back the very talented Mona Mousa (The Poet Mona) for a feature set!
Mona is a spoken word poet and motivational speaker living in Toronto, Ontario. Having toured actively over the course of her 10 year poetry career. Last year alone Mona booked over 200 shows all over North America. Having taught in such places as the University of Hawaii, Yellowknife, and Louder Than a Bomb’s home office Young Chicago Authors, it is obvious that she has a strong passion for teaching.
When she is at home Mona is heavily active in all facets of her community as founder and director of Feather & Anchor, a talent management agency serving performance artists from the BIPOC & LGBT Communities. Over the past 10 years Mona’s mission has been to work to empower communities to engage in discussion. Her Work audaciously and unapologetically centres around themes of identity and race politics, Gender and sexual diversity, and femme visibility.
She’ll often say it’s a political statement just to leave home some days, but if her written and performance work is indicative of anything, it’s of a person who has seen a world of pain love and growth, with imagery that is compassionate towards humanities search for truth and justice.
