8 poets will compete in semi-final action – with the top four poets moving on to Finals, where the Saskatoon Slam Team will be formed to represent at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Guelph in October! Come on out and support some amazing poets and hear some phenomenal words as the top poets in our city compete.

And our feature is NONE OTHER than recently crowned National Slam Champion LADY VANESSA!

About Our Feature:
Lady Vanessa Cardona is a Colombian spoken word artist, activist, storyteller, theatre practitioner and photographer. She aims to create unapologetic, honest art based on genuine life experience as a first generation immigrant woman living on Turtle Island. She started her spoken word career in Windhoek, Namibia and furthered herself in Edmonton/Treaty 6 Territory.

Lady was part of the 2016 Semi-Finalist Canadian National Edmonton Slam Team and the 2017 Finalist Canadian National Edmonton Slam Team. She has written and performed her one woman show called “Three Ladies” at the Edmonton Found Festival of 2017. She is also a co-creator and performer of “Whiteface”. She features in the in the published book “Water “and is in the process of publishing her chapbook “La Sangre Lllama”. Lady is also the 2018 Edmonton Individual Slam Champion and CIPS Chamipon.

Lady believes in the healing powers art provides for our community. Healing is not polite. Art allows us to be the frankest versions of ourselves so that we may strengthen our souls, minds, and the community around us. Art is where we come together through unity of purpose.
