We’ll kick things off with a community stage! Sign up at the door starting at 7:30. Please keep what you share to 1 poem or maximum 5 minutes, out of respect for the space you share with the community. Our double feature is Johnny MacRae and yes!

yes is a radical queer feminist and migrant based in Tkaronto, colonially known as Toronto. they believe in the destruction of the heteropatriarchy, borders, capitalism, and the police state. they come to poetry through the Cuban traditions of being a dramatic lover and never shutting up. As an organizer and member of community, they’re committed to the Spoken Word Canada board, Voices of Today festival organizing committee, and One Mic Educators 2.0 program. yes’s poetry is a blend of vulnerable rage and self-celebrating humour. their intention is to learn so loudly that others have no choice but to follow suit, and just they’re so stoked for our collective growth. also they’ve won some slams and stuff, but the points aren’t the point – the poetry is forevermore the point. https://www.yesthepoet.com/

Both a regional and national slam champion, MacRae has toured widely since 2010, giving over 200 performances at slams and readings, as well as festivals of poetry, music, and theatre across Canada, solo and as a member of collaborative acts 2 Dope Boys in a Cadillac, The Dambassadors and Travelin’ Word Circus. In that same time, he has given over 300 workshops for youth and adults across British Columbia and Canada. When not writing, performing, or teaching, he can be found engaged in community organization.
