We’ll kick things off with a community stage! Sign up at the door starting at 7:30. Please keep what you share to 1 poem or maximum 5 minutes, out of respect for the space you share with the community. Our double feature is Kay Kassier and Jess Tollestrup!

Kay Kassirer (they/them) is a spoken-word poet, organizer, and activist who currently resides on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, colonially known as Vancouver. Kay was the 2016 Capturing Fire rep for Hot Damn! It’s a Queer Slam, and went on to take 2nd place in the festival. Kay has performed on numerous other final stages, including the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word (2015), the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam(2016, 2017), & The Queer Resurgence Poetry Slam (2016).
Using their voice to evoke change, Kay can be found facilitating workshops, organizing poetry events, performing poems, and most likely stuck in a tree

Jess Tollestrup (They/Them) is a musician, storyteller, astrologer, and aspiring physicist who calls many places home. Currently they reside on traditional Blackfoot territory in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Using a looping pedal, Jess creates haunting melodies over which their poetry floats and bites. Their compelling and strange stories span from hitchhiking to body removal, from queer love to consent, from aliens to busking. Piano, guitar, vocal harmonies, and mouth percussion are just a few of their musical tools. In 2016 they released their debut EP ‘The Pluto Year’ and chapbook ‘Metafesto’.
